Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Australian Indigenous Studies
|
This course offers students a broad interdisciplinary approach to the
study of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and societies
in Australia. Students will gain an understanding of both the traditional
and contemporary forms of Aboriginal and Islander societies and cultures
that constitute Aboriginality today.
Units studied are varied and students can specialise as their interests
develop in such aspects as social and political theory, literary and linguistic
analysis and history and anthropology. A degree in Australian Indigenous
Studies is often combined with a vocational major such as Commerce, Psychology
or Education, or with a disciplinary major such as History, Sociology,
Communication Studies, Politics and International Studies, or Philosophy.
Graduates of the Australian Indigenous Studies course have many opportunities
for careers in the public service or in Aboriginal organisations.
